"The Board of Directors of the Stained Glass Playhouse has just announced the 2015-2016 Season of productions.
They include the following:
West Side Story (Musical) Performances: July 17-19, 24-26 & 31- August 2, 2015
The world’s greatest love story takes to the streets in this landmark Broadway musical that is one of the theater’s finest accomplishments. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. West Side Story’s exciting, sophisticated score is by Bernstein and Sondheim , Broadway’s finest and its songs are part of the nation’s musical heritage. Musical numbers include: “Maria”; “America”; “Cool”; “One Hand, One Heart”; “I Feel Pretty”; “Somewhere”; “Gee, Officer Krupke!”; “A Boy Like That”; “I Have Love” and “Tonight”.
Bell, Book and Candle (Drama) Performances: November 6-8, 13-15 & 20-22, 2015
Gillian Holroyd is just your average, modern-day, witch, living in a New York apartment with her Siamese familiar, Pyewacket. But one day a handsome publisher, Shep Henderson walks into her building and Gillian decides she wants him--especially as it turns out he's marrying Merle Kittridge, an old poison penpal from Gillian's college days. So, Gillian casts a spell over Shep. But her powers are in danger of being exorcised by something stronger than the bell-book-and-candle routine: Love.
The Piano Lesson (Drama) Performances: February 5-7, 12-14 & 19-21, 2016
. It is 1936 and Boy Willie arrives in Pittsburgh from the South in a battered truck loaded with watermelons to sell. He has an opportunity to buy some land down home, but he has to come up with the money right quick. He wants to sell an old piano that has been in his family for generations, but he shares ownership with his sister and it sits in her living room. She has already rejected several offers because the antique piano is covered with incredible carvings detailing the family's rise from slavery. Boy Willie tries to persuade his stubborn sister that the past is past, but she is more formidable than he anticipated.
Dearly Beloved (Comedy) Performances: May 6-8, 13-15, 20-22, 2016
Dearly Beloved by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten is a story of a completely dysfunctional but loveable Texas family in the throes of another series of life-changing events. The Futrelle Sisters, Frankie, Honey Raye and Twink, are throwing a wedding. Frankie has almost made herself sick with elaborate preparations for her daughter Tina Jo’s antebellum-inspired wedding, and the rumor mill in their small town of Fayro, Texas, is working overtime. No surprise there, the Futrelle Sisters have never been strangers to gossip. After all, they did survive the scandalous breakup of their almost-famous gospel singing trio, The Sermonettes. But Twink’s desperate attempts to get her boyfriend of 15½ years down the aisle, Frankie’s ongoing conversations with their dead mother, and Honey Raye’s tendency to race to the altar at every opportunity have kept tongues wagging for years.
