"Relating to the announcement that Forest Oaks Country Club has closed its doors and ES2 Sports & Leisure, LLC is filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, Ricky Proehl, owner of Proehlific Park, has issued the following statement.
“Proehlific Park is shocked and saddened to learn about the bankruptcy filing by ES2 Sports & Leisure, LLC. Proehlific Park has never been involved in the operation, ownership or management of Forest Oaks Country Club.
“Proehlific Park allowed the use of name ‘Proehlific’ to assist another local business with a long and storied history in Greensboro.
“Besides this standard name licensing agreement, Proehlific Park has had no other involvement with the operation, ownership or management with Forest Oaks Country Club.
“Proehlific Park continues to thrive as a Greensboro-based business and we look forward to many more years of serving the community.”"

ES2 Services of Raleigh and Proehlific Sports & Leisure, the owner of Proehlific Park in Greensboro, will take over management of Forest Oaks Country Club and are planning a new 7,000-square-foot fitness center at the club.
Along with the changes comes a new name for the club that sits southeast of Greensboro — Proehlific Club at Forest Oaks.
"Forest Oaks Country Club is a natural fit for our growing Proehlific Sports & Leisure brand," said Ricky Proehl, a former NFL player and owner of Proehlific, in announcing the new agreement. "We are confident that Forest Oaks, under the new name Proehlific Club at Forest Oaks, will provide a natural extension of our mission of service to this community."
Under the management agreement, which begins April 1, Proehlific and ES2 will lease and manage the club for four years, after which they will have an option to purchase the property, according to the News & Record.
The club is owned by Tokyo-based Nisshin Corp., and was previously leased to Steve and Pam Sharpe, residents of Forest Oaks and members of the club since 1985. The Sharpes signed a three-year lease for the property in 2010 with a purchase option.
The club was formerly home to the PGA Tour stop that's now the Wyndham Championship, which moved to Sedgefield Country Club in 2008. Its membership has declined in recent years, with the club drastically reducing initiation fees to try to attract new members.
Investments in fitness centers have become more common among country clubs in the Triad and nationally as they compete to land a new generation of members. Proehlific and ES2 plan to begin the renovation of two ballrooms at Forest Oaks to create a fitness center in the near future, according to the News & Record.
